ParticipantHi all
Have customer wth Bosch fridge freezer.E-nr (as read by customer) is K6V3104-GB/04 FD 7912-18133. Think this should read KGV3104-GB/04.
As i have just come out of hospital cannot get to see fridge but cust says it is lazy in coming on and will only kick in when freezer is defrosted. Is this a thermostat only model? and will a K59 fit it? Dont want to lose job so if i order stat should be able to fit it by the time it arrives.October 13, 2004 at 8:38 am #117994shane

Be very wary of this one. This model has an electronic control module,
not a conventional thermostat. The control is by two thermister sensors and these appear to be buried in the insulation and so not accessible. As the appliance is nearly five years old it may not be repairable, we have had to scrap a number of this type of appliance because of this.
Before we became wise to the problem we had changed the control module, to no avail.
What compounds the problem is , the Bosch tech. info is in German.

I think Sparkey has the solution to these foamed in thermistors.
Two threads he has picked up on here may be of use:

Hope this may help.

Judging by the mod sensor is taken out of circuit. Does the fridge still go into defrost i.e. any comebacks on repairs?

If it’s a Bosch recommended mod then there’s no reason why it should cause any undue defrost problems, the defrost function will most likely be timed by the pcb I would think.
Sparkey may be able to enlighten us more, or Ian if the repair he did was successful.

Quite right, this range of fridges with foamed in sensors has two sensors, one on the foamed in evaporator and one lower down in back wall to control air temperature.
The evaporator sensor is the one which fails as it is used to tell the electronics when the evap. is defrosted.
The sensor is cut out of the circuit and the connections joined together at the module connector. the electronics then revert to emergency mode and control the defrosting on a time control rather than temperature.
Have done the ‘improvement’ many times and has worked every time.
Some module edge connectors have four connections, on this one you cut off the sensor leads to terminals 1 and 3 leaving 2to3 inches of cable on the block, join these leads together and insulate.
On the three terminal version you locate the sensor connected to terminals 1 and 2 and cut as above, TAKE CARE to make sure second sensor wire is left also connected to terminal 1
The terminal numbers are moulded into the plastic body of the edge connector

KeymasterYou have to wonder what muppet came up with the idea of foaming in components that were liable to failure don’t you? 😕

With typical Teutonic efficiency they no doubt believed that component failure was a thing of the past…..
Cynical! Moi? You bet….

Thanks all, especially Sparkey and Wizard, for your valuable help. Mod worked a treat. Customer has just rung to say fridge/freezer is staying cold. For the colours on this fridge freezer with three pin plug, dark brown wire was cut (pin2) and joined to blue, light blue and black(pin 1) at crimp connector. Cut dark brown wire was then insulated coming out of sensor.
