ParticipantI have this job tomorrow to look at,
Description of fault was “banging when spins” – Usually this means worn bearings, but past experiences tells me that it could be loose concrete block – I won’t know until I inspect it tomorrow.
Anyway…I decided to research for parts availability, could not find any thing about drum or bearing kits apart from sealing kit which I guess it is for the outside rather than the inside.
I decided to look deeper on UKW, some noises about welded drum. Can anyone confirm that the machine in question is a welded tub? If so, what’s the part number for new tub?

normal tub with bolted tub front, the front wieght could be the problem.

checked front weight and top weight, no change to the banging noise. it vibrates a lot and causing the kitchen items to rattle off the worksurface. it sits on wooden floor.
Client says it been like this over last few days. I suspected it was dampers being the culprit as one side is stiff and the other is weak. Has anyone come across this before? If I am to replace it, how easy is it?
Will I have to put the machine on the side to remove the damper from the base?

Laying it on its front is easier! 😉
Are you sure that the drum spigot isn’t busted?

Fortunately for me, the client did not want to wait for the parts, it’s amazing how half a day make a huge difference!
The parts would not arrive till the afternoon, but she want it fixed in the morning. so I said it was not possible as the part would not arrive till the afternoon. She was determined to try to get me to fix the machine in the morning. To cut a long story short, she did not want to wait and decided to plump for a brand new washing machine.
All that to avoid the afternoon repair. I ordered the sodding part for her and I expect it to arrive shortly this afternoon now that I will have to return it and pay the restocking fee! Anyway I supplied and installed a new machine and removed the old machine for disposal. She’s happy now.
To answer your question if it was the spigot, I wouldn’t have a clue. Who knows it might make it way to your shop to be refurbished?

The suspension on this machine gives very little trouble cannot remember the last time we fitted one, more likely to be a drum spider cracked. Neil

When I checked it out, it was quite comical when the machine starts spinning with clothing inside it, it did not make any banging noise as it was described on the original spec for the job,
In fact it was more vibrating rather than banging. It vibrates so much that everything in the kitchen that have items on the shelves or anywhere that is not bolted down rattled off.
The machine was standing on the floorboards and the vibrations travelled throughout the kitchen. It was a 1930’s house with all original features.
I checked for drum play, belt condition, etc, nothing there to indicate it’s worn apart from the suspension feels rather soft on one side compared to the other. In my own opinion, I never liked machine that have 1600 rpm for spin cycle as it gives me more problems than it worth. The machine is not built for that kind of spin more like it was borderline. I’ll tolerate the 1400 rpm but nothing more.
The client did me a favour by buying a new machine with lower spin speed of 1200 rpm. Like I said, I’ll never know what is really causing the problem. I have not had the pleasure to carry out autopsy on the machine. I will be having new suspension as spares, so if anyone out there would like it, then ping me with an offer!
