Hi i was hoping for a little advice / reccomendation for a tumble dryer that works well even in cold ambient temps,,
We keep our dryer in the garage, and as such it often has to work in similer temps to what the outside temps are…
Main reason i ask is that last year we bought a Beko 7kg load with auto sensors and stuff… and it worked great.. untill winter came.. then it just refused to blow warm air at all when the temp was around 1 or 2 or lower…….
Needless to say during the winter is the 1 time we need the tumble dryer above all others.. so having 1 that wont work when its cold is a complete waste of time! 🙂

Never had a prob with the previous 3 dryers we had… but am now loathe to fork out money not knowing if the next 1 will suffer the same problems.. ;0(

So any sugestions? thanks for any help 🙂

    That is correct.

Most sensor or condensor dryers will not work in low ambient temperatures and, conversely, when the ambient is too high.

The basics are details in this article:

Essentially though, you have more chance with a vented dryer but there’s no guarantees that even they will work 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} as many are regulated these days using electronics and sensors as they are more accurate. If you want to reduce energy consumption the accuracy is important, so there’s not too many that are the old manual type left.

All models and brands are affected in the same way I’m afraid.

So essentialy, im after a vented dryer without any kind of sensors to aid drying time…
Seems stupid … as i cant believe im the only 1 who hasnt room in the house for a tumble dryer…. most of the new build houses nowadays barely have room for a washing machine! :0(

Some vented dryers will also struggle with a low ambient, there’s no way to be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure without testing it. Depends on the machine.

Most won’t be recommended for low temps.

Basically, few appliances are designed with low ambients in mind as they are intended for use under normal domestic conditions, i.e., at normal room temperatures from about 10-15C to about 30C and when you wander outside that range problems can arise due to the temperature extremes.

The perfect solution therefore is to figure a way toward improving the thermal qualities of the garage. Plugging the drafty gaps under the doors, insulating the walls. Vinyl floor coverings or carpet under the dryer prevents rising damp. Ensure the vent hose wall kit is fitted with a double or triple flap that closes when the dryer has finished its cycle.

Most standard garages in the UK never contain a car as they are too small anyway. But large enough for a tumble dryer (any make of tumble dryer that is) to have its place in a nice cosy, out of the way spot all year round. 😀
