This is a bit odd; one minute it was working, now it’s doing everything it should, except microwaving the food. The platter turns, and all the buttons are doing what they should be doing.
Is this a known issue with Neff m/w ovens? It’s about 18 months old and had little use; all the other functions work (grill etc), just no microwave. I know digging around inside m/w’s is a dangerous pasttime, but is there anything obvious I should be looking for?

It could be one of several things causing that fault Pete.
It’s probably number 1 on the list of microwave reported faults we see, the trouble is, one of a few things can cause exactly the same syptom.
As you say, it’s extremely dangerous prodding around inside microwaves due the high voltages and risk of microwave energy escaping.
Best bet is take it to a shop/workshop that repairs them on site, it will save you the cost of a call out.

Thanks. The unfortunate thing is that it’s the Mother-in-Law’s microwave, and it’s broken whilst we were house-sitting! They’re back tomorrow, so we’re going to have to own up, or deny all knowledge 😉

We have 7 experienced and trainned engineers working here.
Only 2 of them work on microwaves, this is for safety reasons.
Strongly reccomend taking it to some one who can repair it safely and who will then test it properly for you.
High voltage can kill.

Although your model number is not recognised, most Neff Microwaves of that age use invertor technology which is highly complex and baffles us sometimes. They are also prone to having the exact fault you mention which is neither cheap or easy to fix. If it is only as old as you say, I would suggest contacting the official Neff service agent in you area and kick up a fuss as they may help given its age or it may even have a 2 year warranty on it.
