    LG WD12316RD Display goes blank
    This machine works ok for 5/6 minutes then the display goes blank, only way to reset it is to turn it off at the socket wait 5/6 minutes before switching it back on, then it will work again for 5/6 minutes.
    I went to this yesterday worked ok for me but on their first wash it played up again.
    Any help and suggestions much appreciated

    Have you looked at the board? I take it that’s one of those models where it’s all behind the fascia. If so, there’s a big capacitor near the mains input to the board. They fail and will probably show a visible sign of failing (bloated or popped or melted the plastic film covering.) New board might fix it if this is what you find, but I’m not going to stick my neck out that far.

    This one has three boards the facia one and two down the bottom rear left looking from the rear one is just a power supply the other is the main board both of these are sealed in with some sort of plastic and you can’t get to them to look for dry joint etc. I have been back and it did do it once for me power to main PCB so power supply PCB ok. Have advised it is the main board at £142.60 + VAT to me, RRP £190.18 they are going to get a new machine.

    Yup. All the power boards on LG I’ve come across are embedded in that tough silicone-like stuff. Great for keeping moisture out but makes repair a near impossibility. Smells quite nice when you melt it with a soldering iron though.
