I’ve had a Belling HM648 cooker for about 9 years and its been a trial. I’ve had to replace the grill element, the fan-assisted oven element and the other oven element. And yesterday the halogen hob died! I assume I need to replace the element which I note is likely to cost in the region of £130 just for the part. I’m really wondering whether it’s worth persisting with this cooker as I have lost faith in it. (Including fitting, the halogen hob element is likely to cost getting on for £200.) How long should this cooker last? It wasn’t cheap, I seem to recall. Should I just dump it and buy a new unit? Or is there a cheaper option for repair? For example, can one buy a used element? Or is there any way I could replace the failed halogen unit with a cheaper non-halogen unit? Que faire! Thanks.

The problems you’ve experienced over nine years are pretty light i would say for a well used oven. The halo rings are expensive but as a cheaper option you could have a normal ceramic hotplate fitted in it’s place. Universal fit ones go for between £30-£50 depending on rating. Even if you did go for the expensive option it’s way cheaper than a new cooker.

Many thanks. £35-£50 for a non-halogen unit seems more acceptable.
