ParticipantCan the bearings be changed in this?
It started making ominious clunking noises, even when switched off & turning the drum manually.
I’ve just had someone out to look, who took the top off, announced it was the bearings, that the tub was glued & they can’t be changed, & launched into a prolonged sales pitch of other machines.
So, can the bearings be changed in this model, or should I give up and buy a new machine?
It was bought in January 2008, so isn’t that old. Just out of free warranty, of course…

You need to give us the full PNC or product number from the rating plate, some models have a sealed drum some the screwed drum.

Bought in 2008, then yes, likely as not, the drum can be seperated and bearings replaced. Only the later models produced from 2009 have sealed drums where bearings cannot be replaced. (Those with sealed drum have a PNc no of 91460402801/2/3).

The cost of sticking in new bearings isn’t a cheap fix mind you. 🙁

Thank you.
It did feel more like a sales pitch than diagnosing the problem or attempt to repair.
Any idea how much it would be to replace the bearings on that?
The machines he was trying to see were an amica or ise10. Neither of which seemed to be a drier too, which is what the current machine is- probably what he had in stock, or am I being too cynical?
Any recommendations for a new washer drier?

Yes, don’t buy one at all unless it is a Miele.
You should check the PNC numbers that Martin has given you to be absolutely certain which type of drum it has before casting aspersions. 😉 🙂

Thanks.
Where can I find this number?
I don’t have the budget for a miele. 🙂

Varies wildly depending on the state of the old bearings and how badly scored the main drum shaft could be?…tough call!

No they don’t but nice machines especially the ISE10. 😀

Oh dear, they are pretty much frowned on in the trade for many and various reasons, one of which you are now aware of. Zanussi overall though fair pretty well and occupy the middle ground. Price overall dictates the quality and if you bear that in mind you can’t go too wrong.
Here’s an idea….How about an ISE10 and the ISE CD601W dryer…wow!

The number I’ve got is PNC914604000 00
Does this mean the bearings can be replaced?

That PNC is for a split drum machine, you can easily inspect this yourself by removing the lid. It will be obvious if the outer drum has two halves held together by lots of screws.
The bearings can be replaced on that machine. Quite a big job and cost would also depend on the condition of the inner drum shaft, if it has been noisy for quite some time then the shaft may well be damaged making the repair very expensive.
If it is just the bearings then it would probably be worth fixing.
