ModeratorYes, we loose a lot of everyday tools but this one I cannot believe.
About 20 years ago I bought a hook spring tool for removing the large coil spring on the old Hotpoint Bosch slimline dishwashers.
The part number now is, I think, C00884667. Have to admit I have never used it for its correct purpose but it was dead handy for slipping into small gaps in wooden kick boards in built in kitchens and enabling me to pull these off from behind- useful when there is no gap large enough to get your fingers in.
About a week ago I noticed it missing from my tool bag and I have searched everywhere for it so assumed I have left it in a customers house never to be seen again. Would you believe it, today I called on a Bosch dishwasher with a door problem and found the hinge-spring support busted and hanging loose requiring the release of the spring! So the one time in 20 years I really needed that tool was a few days after loosing it. Life stabs you in the back sometimes.
Yes I managed without it but it was a struggle. If anyone has one lying around I will gladly pay postage to relieve you of it.September 23, 2011 at 7:47 am #359751Martin

Never heard or seen one before Mark nor would I have a clue what one looks like TBH. But that number still flags up as being available at around 8 quid. 🙂

I know its still listed Martin, thats how i found the new number. Just cannot be bothered really and thought maybe some others had one lying around. Its basicly just wire hook with a loop handle on it. Will probably make something for the kick boards. Pretty sure they also listed this same tool for fitting the “packing strap” type door seal band on late hotpoint WM’s but once again, never used it for that purpose.
Anyone for starting a list of special tools they have bought and never used?
I have asko front plate centraliser for a start.
Smeg diagnostic pc hook up, cannot remember the name but they gave me that one.September 23, 2011 at 4:33 pm #359753garn
