My machine wouldn’t empty or spin today, so I attempted to clear the pump cover. I drained the little bit of water left in the the machine through the emergency emptying hose. When I snapped the cap back on the hose and pushed it back into its seat, a small-ish amount of water began to drain from beneath the machine. About a pint or so of liquid, I would guess. I removed the pump cover, and cleared the blockage. It was a small plastic bag that must have been in a trouser pocket. I screwed the cover back in, and set the machine to its final spin.

During the spin the small amount of water became a flood! Not a huge flood, but enough to soak two bath towels. I let the machine continue spinning and removed the washing from the machine when the spin was done.

So what might be the likely reason for the small flood coming from beneath the machine, from the area near the pump? The machine is many years old (somewhere between 6 and 8, I think), and there is some rust on the exterior. I’m wondering if something maybe rusted away inside the machine? Or if I unseated the emergency emptying tube when I pulled it out? I’d like to fix the machine, if it’s possible. I hate throwing the machine out if there’s still a chance there’s some life left in it.

    All ideas welcome. And thanks.

    Hi

Sounds like either you haven’t refitted the filter correctly or you may have pulled the drain hose too hard and it may have have a slight leak there.

Switch off unplug and lean matchine backwards slightly and check the hoses are fitted tightly onto the pump

    Hi Bryan,

Thanks for the fast response! I’ll have a go first thing tomorrow and see if I can spot the problem.

    Thanks again!

It was the drain hose. I reattached it, poured some water into the drum, and ran it through a drain cycle. No signs of leaking now.

Thanks very much, Bryan, for your help!
