Hi Tony
Have you checked if the machine drains correctly?
If it’s slow this will couse the brush/es to burn & melt the housing.
I have had this a couple of times & stripped the whole drain system down to make sure it is all ok (on one I found a coin acting as a valve which was ok one min & not the next)
Hope this helpsRegards

Tony,
The armature is duff mate (drawing too much current) and I expect if you megger/metrohm across the commutator it will have poor insulation readings too 🙁
Check the pump/sump trap too as a matter of course, but my guess is closer to home 😉

Have had pump failing to start intermittently(hard water scale in rotor chamber). Armature went up in smoke eventually.Think it was a wm11.

ParticipantWhich was fine until the composition of the Laminated Brush holder changed (what was that about Brian?). I’ve got to the stage that you can only fit 1600474’s to a brand new armature, which is great as they’re going obsolete; otherwise stick with the gen 161460 and accept a faster wear rate.

Does that mean all the ones ive fitted will end up melting? Have had to replace a few again due to this.

Not necessarily Simon, but it is always a good idea to run test the new brushes under load. (Ask your customer for a couple of bath towels and try a rinse and spin) That will bed them in nicely too 🙂 No point either in changing brushes if you have an armature with any insulation reading below 20megohms 🙄
Also remind your customer to give the machine a bit of a break between washes of about 10 minutes. That tip alone will cool things down and prevent recalls 😉
