After a conversation this morning with the manager of a well known electrical retailer who phoned regarding the problem with a particular brand of chest freezer and was asking why they saw so many of this particular brand being refered to them for exchange.

I asked “Does the price you sell them at not give you a clue ?”

His reply “I never thought about it like that”

Customer education is one thing, perhaps we need to make the retailers more aware as well. When will they realise the cost of uplifts and exchanges will soon outweigh the profit they make on selling the some of these “low end” appliances in the first place.

I must admit at being a little shocked that the retail price reflecting the quality of the goods was not a factor that figured in his mind.

    Re: Talking to retailers

Closer links with retailers was what I had in mind when I suggested to ken that we have a retail corner forum.
What we now need to do is encourage as many retailers as possible to use it. Some of us are involved with retail as part of our business, Whilst others concentrate exclusively on the service and repair side, Yet the fact still remains that we can learn a great deal from one another. This fact has also been recognised by DASA who since the recent AGM are in the process of forming links between both RETRA and AMDEA.

So if you are out there repairing appliances in Independant Retail stores then why not be a spokesperson for UKW and bring our site to the attention of the Retail side of our trade. The more we learn from one another the better.
