The 3 yr old dryer shows no display lights/led’s and won’t work, but there is power to the main controller PCB and the internal lamp illuminates when main dial is switched to any of the settings (except off). Is there a way to know if its the Main Controller (£150) or the Display PCB (£50) or something else. There is a 5-way connector to the Display PCB and one pin has 0.5V, the rest are virtually zero. Both boards look to be okay with no blown/loose components or obvious dry-joints. I am fine with electrics and multimeters, I’d jsut like to know if there’s a way to know what needs to be fixed/checked/replaced. If it’s the main controller, I’ll probably buy a new dryer. In most instances the main board fails. These dryers are rubbish.

Thanks for your fast reply Martin. Not the answer I was hoping for but I now know my next step – it will be a pity to take it to the skip just ‘cos one PCB failed though, it worked well.
I need to use the dryer in the garage so if I buy the cheap, simple, vented Indesit or Hotpoint from John Lewis (£170) and fork out for the 5 year g’tee at £65, am I likely to be in a better position than repairing this beast (can get PCB for £130 now). Or do you think the more expensive brands are worth the extra. I would value your experienced opinion (but won’t hold you to it!). Thanks again, ColinRe: John Lewis JLDV08 Vented Dryer – no display

Locating a modern dryer in a garage may well have been the reason it failed so prematurely in the first place. Electronics hate the cold and damp. Dryers get hot and condensation forms quickly as it cools so rapidly. Then power up the machine the next day and they go AWOL in no short order.Similarly the temperature sensors do not operate in ambient temperatures bordering 5 degrees Celsius or less. Rendering the controlling electronic circuits useless as often as not especially from now until next May…….brrrrrrrrILLIANT!!! 😈

Thanks for that info. The dryer won’t see lower than 5 degrees too often but I appreciate the physics of the situation regarding condensation, even above that temperature. Looks like I need to go for the cheapest 5 year solution (indesit) since I cant put this indoors. I then get another one when it fails after the warranty expires.
