ParticipantI’m having issues with the door seal on my ISE 1607W, bought earlier this year.
The seal is very sensitive to being caught when closing the door. Part of it may not go into the opening properly, and be bent back. If this is at the bottom then there are leaks during the cycle. If higher up it can appear when doing a higher fill cycle, such as hand-wash.
At first I didn’t know what was going on, and found that the door had to be pushed quite hard to close it. After a leak I realised that the seal was bent.
The seal was replaced by our local agent under warranty but has continued to have problems. I’ve managed to get the seal back into shape by massaging it then closing the door quickly, and have taken to running a finger moistened with washing liquid around it before doing a wash, though this doesn’t guarantee that all problems are fixed.
A slight change in the shape of the seal, to make it more conical so that it always went into the opening without catching would solve the problem. As it is I’ve got 10 years of seals being replaced and also water dripping down inside the machine at the front of the drum, which can’t do it much good.
Do other people have problems? Is this a known issue?

Hi Hugh,
There’s no known issues and very few issues with the door seals. As in, in single digits. We’ve had one or two, yours being one, that the seal has twisted on, why we can’t say for sure.
It may be as well to get it looked at but, by the way it’s designed, there’s really not much to go wrong.

Thanks Ken. It’s good to know that it’s not a general problem.
Should I contact my local repair agency or do you want to take a look at it?
Here is the distortion. Black on black makes it difficult to see:
This one shows the actual place where it has caught on the drum. I’ve highlighted the mark:

Hi Hugh,
Mission impossible to see. 😉
Yes, I’d say get it looked at and try to find out if there’s a reason that it’s happening as to get the same problem twice is almost unheard of, especially when it’s not a known issue.

This got to the point where it was impossible to seal the door properly, so I called out the engineer again.
Turns out that the door seal had been modified about 6 months ago, changing the profile so that it didn’t catch in the drum.
The machine is now working fine (apart from the odd glitch in fitting a new seal – make sure that the long supporting boss behind the seal flange goes next to the hinge!). No more worrying about the seal.
