I have a Amica AWCT12L machine that makes a noise that I’m sure is the belt screeching at times during the wash action. The belt is tight, but it sounds like the motor is being allowed for a split second to run too fast meaning the belt slips and screeches on the pulley. The pcb, motor & just in case, mains filter have been changed but still it is happening. There are on bad connections and of course the tacho has been changed as part of the motor.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Huh?

A PCB change for a noise and a mains filter? That seems a tad wasteful as neither could cause the issue.

    No known motor tacho issues.

Chances of two motors with exactly the same fault, zero.

I’d be looking elsewhere but it will be a mechanical fault and not an electrical one.

    Thanks for the reply Ken.
We are repairing the machine on behalf of Amica who asked if we had sought tech advice. Years ago I had a similar noise from several Servis machines over a period of time and the fault was due to the module allowing the motor to run at max speed for a split second. With a full load, the resulting slipping of the belt sounded exactly as this Amica does. The module was changed first therefore and when that didn’t work Amica sent the motor and mains filter. All mechanical aspects have been discounted as the noise is very random, sometimes will occur after 25 minutes, only occurs on the wash speed and only when the drum is full.
I was only checking really to see if anybody else had the same problem. If there are no known tacho or module faults then I will leave it to Amica and the retailer to sort out.

    Many thanks,

I wouldn’t assume a fault or base a diagnosis on a completely different machine.

Forgive me if I’m stating the obvious and, I don’t mean to come across as cheeky or insulting at all Martin but, isn’t it your job as the engineer to diagnose and find the fault? I’d assume that was the goal anyway.

Just to dump the problem when it gets a bit hard seems a bit rough. Especially when you’ve already thrown parts at it and failed to cure the problem.

If it was me that called out a plumber (or suchlike) and I got that as a result I know what I’d be telling him to do with his bill, I’m sure you’d do the same.

Hi, know this is stating the obvious but you mentioned changing parts but not the belt??

Re: Amica AWCT12L noise from belt/motor

Thanks again for the comments. Yes would agree that as an engineer of 30 years standing I would love to find the fault so that I would recognise it again. Part of being a good engineer I think is to have a good memory for faults and causes but the customer and retailer do not have the infinite patience that this would entail. We have already spent two hours on this job, (50 minutes of that waiting for the noise to occur), and have only heard it twice, fleetingly. We are not dumping the problem but both customer and retailer want the w/m changed. As regards the belt, we have all heard this sort of noise from a multi-vee belt, but it would be a constant noise. This is very intermittent.

Had a bosch w/m with a elasticated belt once. Never changed one before or since but it exhibited the same symptoms you have mentioned. Changed it and upon inspection noticed it had exeeded tolerence values.

I felt like a complete prat because the customer suggested changing it and he was right!

Thanks but the retailer has now taken this up with the manufacturer. I did check the belt when I changed the motor and it looked fine. I know the feeling when customers seem to know more than you. Humble pie all round!!
    Thanks,
    M.
