ParticipantOk so I have picked up this twin tub from an old man who said it was leaking, got it into the workshop to find that the leak was coming from the seal at the bottom of the spinner tub.
I am assuming that the seal needs replacing but here is the problem, I have never worked on any twin tubs previously and I am not sure how much of a job this will be to change the seal.
I don’t want to just work through it and then spring a huge bill on my customer, if anyone has changed one of these seals could advise what sort of time I am looking at to do this job. I see that the replacement seals are about £15 but am I likely to need any other parts in order to do this repair.
My customer is a pensioner so I really need to give him a realistic estimate before I start pulling his washing machine apart.Cheers

If the leak really is only the spin side bellows seal then I would reckon to change one in less than 15 minutes, but I have changed them in huge numbers in the past. 🙂
Use the lint tray ( round white thing ) to prop the end of the machine on, tilt it onto the wash tub side.
A single nut holds the spin drum and shaft in place, remove this and then take off the counterweight, locking pin, clutch, spacer tube, clutch/brake drum housing, another locking pin taking careful note of how they came off. Try not to take the clutch shoes off the clutch pulley if you can avoid it, don’t want them going back on the wrong way round and burning out the motor.
You can then lift the spin can clear, the bellows seal is fixed by a large strap around the bottom edge and a small, thin clip around the spin spigot ( bearing support assembly) on the inside of the water container.
If the new bellows seal does not have the white plastic insert and spring inside it you will need to swap them over to the new seal. it is possible to release the large strap around the bellows seal (leave it hanging there, don’t try to take the strap right out) and then pull the seal through into the water container to remove.
You might find it easier to access the screw for the large strap if you take off the back panel and release the side of the cabinet.
It would be a good idea to apply some silicone based grease to the spinner shaft before refitting.
Jim.
PM or e-mail me a live e-mail address and I will send you some light reading. 😀
EDIT. Ignore that last bit, used the e-mail addy on your web site. 8)

Thanks for that Jim, I’ll give it a go.
