ParticipantOur Bosch W/D stopped turning the other day. Suspecting brushes I removed the motor and sure enough they were very badly worn. Ordered a new set and in the meantime stripped the motor, blew out the coating of dust, lightly cleaned up the comutator with 1000 grade wet & dry, scraped out between each sector and tested for shorts, all OK so put it back together and fitted the new brushes. Put the motor back in the machine but still nothing. Reading on here it seems likely the TOC has failed, but how to prove this? I’m assuming that on the 6 way connector there are 3 pairs of connectors and they are next to each other?
Assuming this is the case if I’ve got continuity on each pair the motor is OK? If not it’s the TOC? I’m getting continuity when testing directly across the brushes. Thanks

If it was TOC you would get an open circuit whilst testing the relevant terminal pair on the motor socket.
Could be tacho, wiring between motor and pcb/timer, or the pcb/timer.October 22, 2011 at 7:52 am #361936macleesh

Which terminals are which on the block?
If it is the TOC as I understand it that means a new motor?October 22, 2011 at 8:06 am #361937Martin

Dunno, but TOC is a small silver rectagular attached to the brush holder frame.

Well, put it this way, it’s not available as a seperate part but they rarely fail TBH. More likely if you have full continuity on each of the motor terminals the chances are that the circuit board has a few blown tracks on it?

OK, just had another look and now have machine working.
Schoolboy error 😳 when I split the motor to clean the commutator I wasn’t careful enough about making sure the connectors for the field windings were aligned on re-assembly.Machine is now happily doing a series of empty runs to bed the new brushes in.
Thanks
