Customer had broken the door handle trying to open the door. I call thinking it’s a simple door handle replacement, replace the hand and test the machine. Door Locked LED goes out, can’t open the door, wait 2-3 mins, still won’t open! Turn On/Off s/w off and wait 60 seconds, now I can open the door…WTF?

Couldn’t figure that at all other than the fact power is still supplied to the lock unless you switch the on/off button off. Does the PCB think the machine is full of water or summat?

I told customer to turn m/c right off and wait another 2 mins to open the door for now and she’s OK with that. But must get to the bottom as to the cause, if someone could oblige please?

One thing to note though is that the door is stiff to close and won’t lock unless you switch the machine on first. To open the door requires the proverbial push-pull method. Apparently customer says it’s always been like that though. 😕

    Ta! 😀

    Re: Hotpoint WF541 "Door Locked"

When an interlock shorts out it blows a small triac and the lock will then not lock or work. I’m guessing a bit but I think in this case that triac may have gone short cicuit thus allowing current to flow through the door lock heater when it shouldn’t. Get your soldering iron out 😆 or EMW. Would be wise to change lock as well as this may have been caused by aging lock. Could also be caused by damp / water ingress > corrosion on triac legs.

First thing I did was to replace the interlock. After 60 seconds or so after any cycle finishes the Door Locked LED goes out, but it won’t open unless I turn the On/Off s/w off. The interlock is still powered up by the module otherwise. No error codes showing, all programmes work just fine all the while. 😕

Very odd, which is why I was kinda hoping someone had come across this fault before maybe?

I’m sure I’ve read of similar happenings on here a few times. I once had a Bosch that did the same.
