Any views on the Aga masterchef range cooker – at nearly £3k inc hood, it is considerably more than say a rangmemaster – is it worth it or is it the case of paying for the name?

Re: Aga masterchef – range cooker

The AGA (a real one) is a pretty unique bit of kit as well as not being cheap to buy or repair should it go wrong and it is a specialist area to be honest.

However, they are extremely well built and if cared for will last for years on end. For a range cooker of similar quality have a look at the Viking range, again built like battleships but not exactly cheap, or lightweight! It’s the old story, if you want the best you’re gonna have to pay for it I’m afraid. 😉

The other thing to bear in mind about the AGA is that during the summer, particularly in a smaller kitchen, it gets very warm and can be uncomfortable as it is on all the time. Just something to bear in mind as many seem to ba made as a “lifestyle” purchase and practicality is often not so much of a consideration.

you are right ken in what you say but the range cooker that they are on about is not really a true aga in the sense that it is made by aga to look similar to an original aga but it works exactly the same has a conventional cooker, fan assited ovens, timers etc. I do a hell of a lot of agas it my speacilist field the cooker is good although did have problems with some thermostats at first (unless it was everyone i went to) is it worth 3grand is up to you there is a lot of good range cookers on the market for a lot less that do the same thing! But a true aga which ken is on about are in my opinion fantastic but i am going to say that and they start in the region of about £5500 new for a 2 oven cooker! but all my customers would not go back to normall cookers! hope i have helped clear any confussion and not added to it!

Re: Aga masterchef – range cooker

To throw a little more light on the subject, Rangemaster (the brand name) is now wholly owned by the Aga company.

    http://www.rangemaster.co.uk/

Rangemaster (the name) was born of the old Flavel-Liesure company, they called all their cookers of a certain style this.

Flavel, or the brand name at least is now owned by Beko, a Turkish budget brand manufacturer.

So, I would imagine that an Aga Masterchef is pretty much the same thing as a Rangemaster given that they are both made by the same company.

Ah sorry I didn’t pick up on the price bit. 😳

Phil and Dave are quite correct the electric AGA’s are good, but there are plenty other options for that kind of money that do the same thing, arguably better.

    Branding, gotta love it! 😕

Re: Aga masterchef – range cooker

Thanks for all the useful information.
There seems to be so much choice and although originally we were looking to spend between £1500 to £2k, we’re not sure whether paying a bit more will get us a much better cooker. The makes that have been thrown in our direction, in addition to the Aga, are Falcon, Britannia and Lacanche – we were originally going along the lines of Rangemaster but are now more than a little confused!
