    A Tall Tale – Part 2, A Gobb Chite’s Tale

So whilst Grumpy Arse was off licking his wounds and seething quietly about being put in his place by the fixers one of the great makers called Septics was plotting against its exclusive band of repairers.

Septics came from across the Great Ocean from the land of commercialism and obviously felt that the normal rules didn’t apply to them. But they deferred all dealings with the fixers to someone on these green shores to a local office that metered out many commands, a lot of them being very silly indeed. But the fixers that fixed for Septics were held by a contract and tied with the money offering them little room to do anything. Already Septics had several of its fixers run to ruin, taking advantage of the fixer’s weaknesses and forcing them to live once again in poverty, often with many debts to the King’s Court.

Septics appeared to have taken lessons from Grumpy Arse on how to deal with the fixers and seemed to employ many of the same tactics, as well as some cast-offs.

However unbeknown to Septics there was one of these fixers, a brave, honourable and pure of heart fixer that decided to rebel against the tyranny of Septics and he was known to all as Gobb Chite!

So late in the Autumn Septics employed a new overseer whose mission it was to keep the fixers under control and to bring new repairs in order to keep the fixers busy and making Septics even more money off the back of the fixers. Sleeket, as he was known, proceeded to try to win favour with the fixers, albeit with limited success. You see the repairs had set up a news service that they called Gobboff and it had already become widely known what was going on all over the land due to Gobboff, which hacked off many a Maker and Overlord let me tell you. Anyway, most of the repairers were wise to Sleeket before the mission even started, as were many of the other Great Makers and many others that needed the fixers to repair the machines.

So Gobb Chite went on his own mission to champion the cause of the fixers fighting a battle with scrolls that told of the hardship that the fixers were under, he took the evidence to Sleeket who agreed that something had to be done. Sleeket obviously reported back to Septics and Septics presented a proposal through Sleeket to Gobb Chite in attempt to avert an impending disaster to Gobb Chite’s fixing shop.

Gobb Chite even appealed directly, but his pleas of hardship fell on deaf ears, or is that dumb… sorry the jury’s still out on that one.

Of course Gobb Chite was one of the best fixers in the land, all the other fixers wished that they were as good a fixer as he was and yet the question remained with that being the case, why if he was so good was he having these problems with Septics?

And in all of this maelstrom of confusion the number of gold coins paid to each fixer was sent out across the land via scroll by person/s unknown and it turns out that many of the fixers were being rewarded far less than others showing Septics up for the deceiver that they were.

Well it turns out that it was pretty simple after all, Septics was taking the Mickey out of Gobb Chite and many of the other fixers as well and an informer from within the vastness of Septics confirmed this after one of their number had ousted by some villainous henchmen employed by Septics in the South. Despite being a voice of reason and concern for the fixers plight the poor informer was cast asunder by Septics, but not before telling all the fixers what the real story was by the way of another person to Gobboff. Thankfully the fixers were still getting information from within Septics as there are people there that have retained their honour and dignity, but not many.

So Septics’ overseers and villainous henchmen from Crow-den conjured up plans to stop all the information, they banned any repairer from talking to Gobboff or any other fixer thinking that the problem would just go away by itself. But like the Phoenix the fixers rose from their doldrums, brushed off the ashes and merely took a new approach to the obstacles placed in their way by Septics’ people.

Septics tactics only served to breed more mistrust from the fixers and appear to be even bigger fools.

Meanwhile Gobb Chite realised that his fixing shop could no longer continue as it was and laid plans to resolve the situation. He started to plot a course out of the mess he was in because of Septics’ cunning strategies and eventually he was able to tell them to stuff it. He had brokered a deal with other overlords that were more favourable to the fixers and started to work for them in disguise, systematically dissolving his dependence on Septics to pay his taxes and other little things, like the hay bill for all his carts.

Then, one day when all was quite and not a blade of grass stirred, Gobb Chite pounced upon Spetics with his daring plan and stopped all fixing for them with no notice!

Septics was thrown into confusion (admittedly not hard, but it sounds good that way) and they were all left in a state of shock, with no-one to be fixing the machines. For many weeks Septics struggled with the problem eventually managing to find other fixers, although many fixers suspect that there was an uneven playing field, to repair their machines. Just.

But Septics evil henchmen went forth across the land and spread rumours and lies about Gobb Chite accusing him of allsorts, thankfully most of the repairers already knew the truth and again Septics only bred more mistrust and made themselves look fools to the repairers.

But Gobb Chite survived and flourished with his new found freedom from the shackles of oppression placed upon him by Septics and he lives to fight for the fixers another day. He has shown others the light and that there is indeed life after oppression, even if he was really kinda forced into it.

Has Septics learned the error of their ways, well that remains to be seen

    Re: Missed A Bit

Another brilliant tale from Scotlands new JK Rowling, I can see one problem though, the storyteller says:

Surely this should be copper coins, Gold coins sounds tooooooooo far fetched.

I had to read it twice. Took me a minute to work out who was who & I loved the link regards Septics. I was going round in circles trying to work it out.

How the bloody hell do find the time?

    Re: Missed A Bit

Don’t know why….but it sounds familiar.

I know where I heard it….septics are interested in forging closer links with Dasa. Must be excellent news for dasa members that such highly regarded people want closer links.

Seriously, only bit missing is that cause I did the dirty on them they refused to buy back any spares from me. Thats £70,000 worth. So if septics knocks on your door make sure you have a buy back clause, and good luck.

    Re: Missed A Bit

Was that a bit too subtle?

Alex, I don’t have the time, just the tenacity to not let the bastards grind me down, or indeed, shut me up. 😉

As for the Septics at the DASA meeting, well you work it out and the alterior motives for it.
