ParticipantHeres one for all you old Hotpoint engineers 😉
I have a 7821 service manual which is not a million miles different from a 7822 but can anyone clarify if the water fill before it heats is only two fills of the metering tank? the rest of the fills, pre-wash,rinses it fills three times, should be 4.8litres but isnt 😐
Detergent tablet (Finish all in 1)is creating a “over suds situation” and the boil dry stat 85 deg is tripping before the 65 deg stat triggers the timer motor. An extra few litres of water manually added when heating allows it to work correctlyNovember 8, 2011 at 4:27 pm #363283keithwilliams

every one of these ive ever been to is three fills.however lately i did have one that only filled twice, but only on one of the programs. we agreed that her best option was to use a program that worked properly.
other than that i’d say its a faulty timer. again a few years ago i think i remember only paying about £25 quid for oneNovember 8, 2011 at 4:44 pm #363284Martin

3 fills on all programme settings and all cycle sequences Mal. Each fill dispenses 1.6litres of water (3 times) to establish a 4.8 litre total.
Any less fills would either mean the sump hose is gunged up? Or the float micro s/w is sticking?

Had the sump hose of to give it a good clean, clean as a whistle as is the rest of it 😕 Timer motor is stopped when filling so it doesnt look like switch 😕 but does the two fills are less than the prescribed minuteNovember 8, 2011 at 6:37 pm #363286iadom

Timer motor should be stopped when filling.
It fills the side chamber, overflows into sump tripping the micro switch, this energises the timer, when all of the water has drained into the tub the switch resets, stopping the timer and energising the fill valve. This process should repeat three times by which time the timer should have advanced into the next impulse to start the wash action.
However, just had a read of the dusty old manual and some of the fills are only double fills on certain programmes and models.

Yep, if it is fine on the rinses it does point to a timer fault TBH. 🙁

I see where you are coming from Jim.
Quote from the manual you forwarded“All models unless specified”
“The total fill time amounts to one minute but is interrupted by the rocker switch each time 1.6litres has entered the sump, this in conjunction with the rotation of the timer will give either 3.2 or 4,8 litre fills as shown on the sequence chart”
Allthough the sequence charts for 7822’s shows a 60 sec fill time 😕 not the first time a manual would have mistakesNovember 8, 2011 at 10:20 pm #363290iadom

TBH that model is the entry level one, it was only the higher spec ones with more programmes that filled to a lower level on the glass wash etc.
