ParticipantHi all,
i have an indesit 143S(UK) washing machine with very noisy bearings. on removing the lid i discovered that it has a steel outer drum rather than the regular plastic one. the spider is on the outside as opposed to being fixed to the inner drum. this spider contains one bearing that i can see.
My question is : can bearings/seal be replaced on this model or is it another version of the dreaded “sealed drum” ??
Any advice appreciated. Thanks…November 9, 2011 at 8:08 pm #363419iadom

It is a sealed drum but not the totally sealed plastic one.
The bearings can be replaced on this machine, you need to remove the bearing support spider from the drum to do this.
It would be wise to do this before ordering any parts so that you can check on the condition of the drum shaft. If that is badly scored or scarred then its time to get rid, the shaft cannot be replaced as it is part of the inner drum which is sealed inside the outer one.
If you do attempt this be sure to remove the mains plug and have plenty of plasters or bandages to hand, some lethal sharp edges on these. :rolls:

bearings and seal replaced without removing the drum from the machine. But definately care to be taken as edges are razor sharp. By the way, whats the best way to remove a paddle in order to take out a coin? think it would be faster than removing the sump hose.
I know some machines have a press-tab on the 3rd hole from the front, is this model similar.?November 25, 2011 at 10:29 pm #363422iadom

If you remove the drum lifters on these you will be unlikely to be able to remove any coins, they don’t have holes underneath large enough to get into the drum.
The best way is to wait until the pass through into the sump or take out the heater element from the back.

Thanks. removed paddle out of curiousity. “coin” turned out to be a bra wire which i was just about able to retrieve with a long-nosed pliers. coin removal would definately be impossible through these slots.
