Attended this washer/dryer earlier on this evening. Tenant broke the door catch, Landlord bought new door catch and fitted it himself and thought nothing more. Phone call to Landlord from Tenant saying machine is not working. Landlord called me out…

I visited the address, found the washer/dryer, the door frame is slightly misshapen but nothing more. Door feels rather flimsy but that could be to do with how it was made. The display board showed up F04, I could not narrow it down for this particular model although found some hints saying draining problem. How odd I thought…decided to carry out electrical checks – the usual earth continuity and insulation – nothing to show as it passed the test. “How odd?” me thinks… found handbook for the appliance and flicked through it, Eureka! found some tables showing the fault codes and advising the best course of action. According to the handbook, F04 is saying “Machine will not start”, well I figured that out so please do go on…Mr Handbook…. “If the door won’t shut properly, it will show up F04” – This kinda narrowed it down to the door catch area. So I’m thinking door interlock being the culprit, changed interlock and still no change.

The client swears that the machine works fine until the door catch snapped off. So I am not convinced by the draining problem as it is summat to do with the door catch, door frame, interlock. Any thoughts?

Tried that. That what makes it so baffling!

Landlord got 24 of these machines in the block of flats.

They are all approaching to the end of useful life as they are about 6/7 years old. He got a number of these appliances for cannibalising.
