Whirlpool ADG 6340 Turns itself on an off for 5 minutes

Details of the problem:
The problem is similar to 2 other posts that were not fully answered – links to these are included at the bottom of this post:

The dishwasher starts the cycle ok for the first minute or so. After this it turns itself on and off for a period of about 5 minutes. During the on time, it is both pumping water out (i have disconnected the waste pump to check this) and also appears to be taking in water – if I put my hand around the inlet pipe I believe i can feel a surge of water.

During the off time there is no sound and both lights go out.

It is almost like in the on time the machine is cutting itself out then once the power is off the cut out mechanism resets itself and it starts again.

After about 5 minutes of repeating this for I guess over a 100 times the machine then resumes its cycle normally until completion.

The machine is not leaking and there an no other obvious faults.

In the 1st post below the poster refers to two clips being broken. I have examined the grey pipe inside machine and checked the screws are tight – everything there seems to be sounds.
