Hi, Hope you are well.
We have an eight year old Whirlpool Fridgefreezer [model ART 462/3; Product code : 8564 462 15030]. Both Freezer and Fridge sections appear to be working okay but over the past few months we have noticed ice buildup on the back panel inside the fridge. Ice is only on the middle left side of the back panel. Turning the unit off for about an hour allows the ice to melt and clear. But within 24hrs operation the ice is back again. We’ve also observed that the Fridgefreezer is not cutting off at all but is on continuously.
Would have expected that it should cut off when it reaches the correct temperature so in this case the cold control thermostat’s operation may be suspect ?
User manual is not much help so need some advice on the following :-
– Does this model also have a Defrost timer / Defrost heater /Defrost thermostat ?
– How can I test the thermostat [model Atea A013-0447].
Any help appreciated. Thank you.
Re: Whirlpool Fridgefreezer model ART 462/3 ice buildup
If you only have partial freezing of the back panel its because of either a refrigerant leak or poor performance from the compressor.
Engineer would be required and neither would be a cheap fix.

Re: Whirlpool Fridgefreezer model ART 462/3 ice buildup
Hi BG,
Oh dear, that is unfortunate.
Means we gotta start saving for a new one soon.
Advice noted and appreciated.
Just to make sure I did not get my description on icing wrong, have attached a picture (pdf format) for your confirmation.
Thank you.
Have a good day.
regards.
