Had a customer call me this morning about a noisy Siemens dw “about ten yrs old but still in like new cond’n externally” which had been getting noisier over last month or two and had now decided to pack it in completely. Would I come round and have a look, how much would I charge etc. Well I wasn’t feeling like going right away because I’ve got other stuff I want to do so I got the model no. and said I’d call him back when I’d looked into parts availability, likely faults etc.
Rang him this evening and he then kept me on the phone for about ten minutes first trying to decide whether it might be the drain or circulation pump and then lamenting this “dreadful modern world where we just buy crap and chuck it out after three years ….” sounded a bit like Ken on a rant.
Finally, it turns out they’d been out to Currys this very afternoon and ordered a Sandstrom (?) for delivery Friday. I think it was the Mrs. decision :rolls: .

Marketing Week, 3 Aug 2010, announcing Currys new brands Essentials, Logik, Advent and Sandstrom says: “Sandstrom will be the premium range including high-tech electricals such as TVs that DSGi says will compete with leading high-end consumer brands.”

Note that the black Sandstrom dishwasher is reduced from £350 to £230, the same price at the Logik in Silver, and not far ahead of the Essentials at £190. What amazing value for this high end chinese dishwasher!

I went yesterday to remove a lemon pip from the pump in a Kenwood table top dw. Took me an hour to get the bayonet pump off and back on again. Had to practically take machine apart and then find a way to replace those single use hose clips effectively. Got through a couple of pairs of latex gloves in the process (in order to protect myself from sharp edges.)
OK next time I do that it’ll be quicker because I’ll be able to remember the route. (Won’t I.) Mind you I’ll be giving the cable tie down the pump channel at least five minutes chance before I start dismantling! Maybe in the long term we’ll just have to adapt to working on this carp. Adapt or die.

Yep, won’t be long before dishwashers are made 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} biodegradeable so that when they go wrong you just stick them on the compost heap with a bit of accelerator and a week later you have a pefect filler for your hanging baskets.
