    Hi
    I have a wpl toploader 3rlsq8000jq4
    with no drum action
drains out ok & and makes noises when filled with water.
Can’t get bolt out top of pully yet bit mangled when someone did last time. just abit worried it might be the gearbox?
will turn clockwise on agitator but will also turn 1 turn anticlockwise then lockup
did stop working suddenly so guessing not clutch ? hopefully just coupler ?
left it soaking in d40 overnight but any clues would make my nights sleep better. why is it always friends w/m that have these problems

What pulley are you talking about? not even sure there is one!
pull the motor off and check the coupling thing.

    Re: wpl toploader

if it goes through motions of filling and emptying like belt off on front loader then it will be motor coupling or poss capacitor(22uf i think but please check).i presume pulley you refering to is nut on top of spin/drive shaft.check other items first before you try and remove this.a doddle to open up if you have plenty of room at front.let me know if you need some tech as i have training manual for these(courtesy of fellow poster)paul

    Sorry guys
yes The dodgy bolt is the one holding the paddles inside the drum.
I now realise that I can pull off the motor without removing the whole gearbox and shaft assembly. 😕 thanks saved me loads of time if it is the coupling. motor spins and it makes a rattly plastic broken of sound and no drum movement so hoping not gearbox

motor coupling is shot, but should the drum turm easy one direction motor runs free but the other it gets very tight but does turn the drum, should this be this tight. is it worth trying a new coupling or should i dig deeper into clutch or gearbox ?
