Hi wondered if anyone can help please. My wife cleaned the around solid plates last night and as she was cooking this morning black deposits were spitting and making a cracking noise and going into the food. It looks to me like a thin layer of the plate has come off, however I didn’t know if this was possible or if it might be some carbon deposit or the cleaning product that had dried. She used barkeepers friend I think it’s quite abrasive.

    Thanks for your help 😀

    Hi

Normall due to corrosion caused by not turning the plates on for a couple of minutes after cleaning to dry them out.New one are easy to fit and reasonably priced normally available from the on line shop.

Thanks very much for your quick response, I take it they do need replacing and can loose coating then.

You can ry to bring back the black coating using this:

    http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Cooker+{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} … +Hobs.html

It will re-blacken and condition the surface if it’s pitted but if the actual coating has come off in lumps or badly cracked that won’t save the plate.

The two normal plates used are these two if they need replaced:

    And…

We generally only use the rapid ones as they heat faster and it makes little difference beyond that, they’re just a bit better and not any more expensive.
