Hygena APM 8620 tumble dryer door latch not working

It seems that this problem is not unusual with this and other models.

The door handle is floppy and there is no spring tension to hold the door closed. At first I thought the door latch spring was missing, but then I realised it was actually still in place. I cannot work out what I need to fix the problem. There doesn’t seem to be anything obviously broken.

In a previous post it was suggested that it is often the door handle itself that is broken.

Any advice would be very helpful.
