Could someone tell what this diagnostic code means please? Freezer temperature second digit, bottom right segment lit on a Samsung RSA1WTMH.

If it helps someone, pressing the outer two buttons for a few seconds performs the reset so you can see what the thing is up to. Neither powering it off for 20 mins nor waiting as seems to be standard on other models gets the display back.

My freezer suddenly failed. On the off chance I powered it off and on and got the error code. At that time I didn’t know what it was and thought it was a PCB failure or something. After much Googling and finding this site, I now know what I am looking at!

We have cleaned out the ice build up – funny really as we were gradually emptying the freezer to do just that. However we decided to buy more stuff to freeze which is fair enough given the time of year, so the job got put off …

Now it is cooling again (25C->9C in about half hour) but I don’t know if the problem is really cured. So if someone could tell me what the error means that would be great.

    Cheers
    Jon

    Hi

If its vertical then its the defrost sensor,if it’s horizontal then the fan has either failed or jammed.

Normal cause of icing up if the manufacturer NOT securing the defrost heater plug into its socket correctly causing the unit not to defrost correctly and short.

Thank you very much for the quick response.

Here’s some really bad ASCII art! The lit segment is the X.

So from your response its the defrost sensor. Could you tell me where I would find that.

    Hi

normally a double yellow wire with a black bullet end or it could be a double white wire with a bullet end on the evaperator in the freezer section.

Thanks. I’ve just reread the details on this website for fault finding, so hopefully I wont waste your time with daft questions.

I’ve removed the two plastic covers inside the freezer. I’ve found a double yellow wire with a white plastic bullet about 1″ long by 1/4″ sited just next to a white fan. I got a resistance of 5.4 k ohm across it – no idea if that helps!

The sensor looks OK – no signs of damage and it was clearly in the correct plastic “slot”. Is there any easy way to test it?

The fan turns OK with the cover off. I’ll see if it might catch on the cover in some way. There is a sheet of polystyrene inside the top cover that looks to have degraded a bit. It has sort of bubbled slightly which might catch the fan.

[EDIT: fan probably OK – I can feel a breeze at the top vent on opening the door that quickly goes off]

There was a lot of ice in there after only a few hours of cooling.

I’ve also eaten more pizza than a bloke should ever have to.

    Again, thanks for your help.

    Cheers

Well I’ve finally got around to swapping out the sensor and the fault code remains 8( It was off for around 15 mins and I’ve run the reset thing a couple of times.

On the bright side there was no real icing up inside, just some small blobs on some thin metal pipes behind the internal panels.

We’ll finish off the food inside this thing and then I’ll do another, longer inspection.

    Cheers
