Participantcreda 37747 tumble dryer thermal cut out switches help?
There are 4 wires of different colours and there are 2 cut out switches one is marked with a red dot and has to go on a certain side obviously but my partner didnt bother drawing himself a sketch when he took them off to remind him where they went does anyone else have any help or can open there machine and write exactly the way theres are connected. We have already blew the thermal cut out switched that we bought and replaced they worked once so I take it we had them the wrong way round or attached wrong. 😕

My goodness Jackie you have a bit of a problem there 🙁
As far as I know with this model you should have (possibly 😕 ) one BLUE wire and a ‘double’ RED wire, that should go to the ‘left hand thermostat'(THE ONE WITH THE RED DOT ON IT) And a single ORANGE and a single BROWN that should go to the ‘right hand thermostat’???
Not certain on this as there are many variants, but as a tip, the length of the leads will give the obvious clue here, as at least 2 cannot reach across to the right hand t/stat 😉
If the colours I have given you are incorrect, exactly what have you got there? (Doubles & singles of course)
Hope that helps?
Martin

I have checked the tumble dryer and it has 3 of the wires the same as you have stated. One single light orange, one single brown, one single blue but there is a double black and orange not red and red as you stated. 3 of the wires can reach to the right hand side they are all the single wires. What do you think I should do? I dont want to blow a new set of thermal cut out switches. Also another thing do you think when the cut out switches blew the last time that the new ele, ment will still be ok?
Please reply as soon as possible and thanks for your earlier response.

Jackie,
The single orange and the single brown go to the right hand thermostat.
The double black/orange and the single blue go to the left hand thermal cut out (that has a painted red dot on it *)
The thermal cut out device is there to protect the element so by it blowing last time should mean the element is OK. It most likely went due to someone turning the dryer off without allowing it to complete the last 10 minutes of the cycle (cool down period)
Hope that gets it sorted for you?
Martin
* If it is a Green Dot that you have, the wiring is different yet again 😕

ParticipantJackie,
The operating thermostat is switching on the neutral side of the element, the safety thermostat trips on the live feed. Without a circuit diagram, it would be a question of tracing the wiring back with a test meter. If you are unable to do this, you must get professinal help. The element will probably have survived intact; again a test meter will confirm this.
Whatever you do, pull the plug first.

Thanks Martin. The tumble dryer is up and running exactly the way you told me to do it. Took all of 5 minutes to put it back together again with the new thermal cut outs. Thats the last time I let a man near electrical equipment. Thanks again for your help it very much appreciated.
