Can anyone help ? I have been quoted £400 just for the parts to change the bearings on the our Miele W970 washing machine. So would like to know two things really how difficult is it to do, and how to do it and where can i get the parts, Many Thanks in advance.

How difficult depends on how experienced you are with such things, obviously! If you can’t get a better quote from a local independent (I assume Miele are the people you asked?) and you feel up to having a crack at it (not much to lose if it’s £400 + otherwise) then the best route is to first get the old parts out to find out what they are. You can get very decent bearings for very little money if you know what the sizes are. The bearing / shaft seal could be (though not necessarily) tricky to source unless Miele sell it separately. If the quote includes a new inner drum, then it sounds more realistic.

Its not the most difficult of appliances to work at, but i’ve been working on Mieles for many years & only ever had to do bearing changes on Semi Commercial machines which were running 8 hours per day, never had to do a domestic washer bearing replacement. Some of them were guaranteed against bearing failure for 10 yrs by Miele?
