How difficult depends on how experienced you are with such things, obviously! If you can’t get a better quote from a local independent (I assume Miele are the people you asked?) and you feel up to having a crack at it (not much to lose if it’s £400 + otherwise) then the best route is to first get the old parts out to find out what they are. You can get very decent bearings for very little money if you know what the sizes are. The bearing / shaft seal could be (though not necessarily) tricky to source unless Miele sell it separately. If the quote includes a new inner drum, then it sounds more realistic.
