    Hello All,

First post here so apologies that I’m already after some help.

I have a Hotpoint 9605 which I replaced the timer unit on over the weekend due to some of the cycles failing. The machine is still not working correctly in fact it is even worse. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the timer on this model? I am 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure of all connections except on where I was interrupted by a phone call.

    Many thanks for your help!

    Regards, Stuart Thomson

    Hi Stuart

Sorry to blow you out on your first post but forum rule no. 8 does not allow us to sort out wiring faults.

If you can post up a couple of pictures of the timer one of the guys may be able to point you in the right direction.

Re: Hotpoint 9605 Top Loader Timer Wiring

Thank you very much for pointing out my mistake. Sorry!

I will take some pictures of the connectors at the weekend and post them here. Maybe someone can spot something blindingly obvious. Failing that, I will have to check the various positions of the timer with a multimeter and see what does what.

Do you guys happen to know any engineers in the Lancaster area who could service/repair this age of washing machine. Whilst I’m not against fixing stuff myself there comes a point where it would be cheaper to hire an expert.

    Many thanks, Stuart

    Find an engineer 😉

What was actually wrong with the old timer, what cycles were failing, what was the machine actually doing or not doing?

Generally a very reliable timer TBH.

Re: Hotpoint 9605 Top Loader Timer Wiring

Great, thank you for the link!

The machine would only do cycle #7. All the other cycles did nothing at all.

Since changing the timer #7 is still the only cycle to do anything at all but it is now not working correctly as the powder is not used in the tray. This is why I wonder if I completed the wiring correctly.

Presume there is something else wrong with the machine given the failure is still similar to before.

Do you think this is something I can fix myself or should I call in the pro’s?

    Many thanks! Stuart

Re: Hotpoint 9605 Top Loader Timer Wiring

I think you should have called in the pro’s on day one, you appear to have changed a perfectly good and expensive timer when all you really needed was a new hot fill valve. :rolls:

    FILL VALVE

Sadly the general public always think that when a machine stops working it must be ‘the brain’ the ‘control module’, the ‘timer’ or some other highly complicated and expensive fault.

Your machine fills with hot water only on programmes 1,2,3, it fills with hot on 4,5,6 until the NTC ( temp sensor ) senses that the water is above the temp for that programme then it switches the cold valve on to compensate. Programme 7 is the woollen wash, that fills with hot & cold together all the time, ergo if the hot valve is faulty it will not fill on any programme except 7.

Re: Hotpoint 9605 Top Loader Timer Wiring

Wow, many thanks for the reply and advice.

Normally I would have called in someone to look at the machine however the guy we used to use has retired and he told me that very few people would work on such an old model. Will most people in the “find an engineer” search know this type of machine?

Fortunately I had a spare timer in my box of washing machine parts so this has not been too costly exercise. Yet…

I will have a look again at the timer wiring over the weekend and check all the connections. If I can get cycle 7 working again I will order the part you mentioned. It’s got to be worth a try.

    Thank you again, Stuart

Re: Hotpoint 9605 Top Loader Timer Wiring

The water that flows into the lint tray depends on the direction of the motor, in a wash direction the flap valve inside the pump directs the water into the soap/lint tray, in a spin direction the valve flops over and the water should then be pumped down the outlet pipe.

Its possible ( very remotely ) that you have got the motor running in the wrong direction due to a wiring error, if that was the case you would not get a wash action when set on wash, it would just drain out for a short while and then start filling again.

Re: Hotpoint 9605 Top Loader Timer Wiring

That sounds exactly like what is happening…

I will investigate and let you know how it goes. The purple bridging wire on the side of the timer nearest the side of the machine was the one I was a little unsure about but I’ll trace the whole lot though just to make sure everything is correct.

Better get a new battery for my multimeter and a very large cup of tea.

    Many thanks!

It won’t matter how far you trace it, you will not be able to determine if the wiring connectors on the timer that switch the direction of the motor are on the wrong terminals as they all lead to the motor. 😉

Re: Hotpoint 9605 Top Loader Timer Wiring

Everything is working perfectly again. Thanks to iadom a Hotpoint 9605 lives to spin another day!

I checked all the at the timer and then replaced the hot water fill valve. Also took the time to hoover out all the fluff and dust which had built up in the back of the machine. I now have a machine which is nearly as good as new and a spare timer.

Since the machine is in such good shape I am now tempted to replace the plastic front panel which has cracked around the timer dial. Are these difficult to get? I guess I know the answer to that…

Anyway, thanks again for all your help! Stuart

Facia is still listed but may turn out to be obsolete. part number is C00146436, around £40 though.

    Thanks!

    I’ll have a think about it. That’s a lot of $$$ for a non functional item…

    All the best, Stuart
