KeymasterThe soap drawer in my machine is always mouldy-even up into the little holes that the water comes out of. I rang Bosch who just told me to clean the holes with a vegetable brush. I also had an engineer out who said the machine is fine – apart from the mould. The machine really smells inspite of using a hot wash and cleaning it out with Milton . My clothes have now got black marks on. Please help! The machine is only 12 months old and this has been a problem for the past 9 m onths. i have never had any thing like this with previous hotpoints.

Russell,
You are probably using to much detergent, powder I feel is better than liquid 😉 . Clean the dispenser as suggested and run the machine on a 60 degree wash once in a while with 3 tablespoons of Barcarbinate of Soda in the drum!!
Using the dispenser with powder will cure the dispenser smell very quickly also. Clean behind the folds of the door seal adjacent the inner drum too 🙂

Thanks- I have tried the hot wash but I will try the bicarb – any idea how to clean the water inlets- the mould seems to be in there as well. 🙂

A bottle brush will help, otherwise simply using the dispenser (which I suspect you don’t perhaps?) will help 🙂

You’re right!- I use liquid in the drum – I did try powder for a while but it didnt seem to make much difference. Thanks 😀

KeymasterIt makes a HUGE difference in many cases as a lot of the time a “bad smell from the washing machine” is the customer using liquid detergents. It is extremely easy to overdose using it and the residue left that cannot dissolve properly eventually congeales forming a not too nice gunk in the washer. And it stinks!

Useful to point out that most detergents (unless they state otherwise) contain a bleach that is temperature activated above 80c…using the 95c (whites) prog will activate it. The moulds will be killed by this and gradually removed along with the smell! Try using the whites prog at least once a month…if you don’t have any suitable articles to wash at this temp then run the machine empty but still add a little detergent (the source of the bleach). This is a common problem….we all tend to wash at lower temperatures these days for the sake of energy consumption etc
