Hi, wondering if anyone can help me.

I’ve had a few problems with my Indesit WD 12S washer/drier. Now it doesn’t seem to dry anymore.

We’ve had a chap out to look at it and he reckons the thermistor needs replacing but that this can only be obtained from indesit themselves and that this will take several weeks (we have been waiting for 3 weeks already)

    2 questions

    1. Is it likely that it is the thermistor thats gone or could it be another problem? (I know nothing about thses things)

    2. Can I use any other spare rather than the Indesit one?

From reading the posts on this board it would appear that these machines have lots of problems, mine being one of many.

Any help on this will be appreciated

    Thanks

    Chimp,

Can you be a little more specific here? Does the dryer heat up at all, is the blower fan working, does the pump run?

Just 3 of an number of aspects required for the dryer to work 🙁

The ‘Temperature Sensor’ (thermistor) will usually show an error ‘flash’ code if it were faulty though.

And parts are specific to the model and only for that model I’m afraid 🙁

Thermistor failure on this particular machine would come up as an error code on the display. The component would have an assigned value and operating range, so most unlikely that there is an alternative.

If the dryer is selected, does it do anything at all – you should at least hear the fan running, the drum should be turning, pump cutting in and out etc.

If nothing at all, I would be more inclined to the digiboard playing up – they are absolutely notorious in the trade. The dryer is a high current application and the boards are famous for burning out joints!

Something to think about, anyway. If you’re going to have a look yourself, Pull The Plug First!

I really wish I could remember all the models, but I can’t so….. on some models there is a cable with a thermal fuse in it.
If the dryer fan and the pump is working, check to see if there’s a thermal fuse cable. If there is check it for continuity and if it’s blown then you’ve either got a blockage in the system (not enough air flow) or the cool down period isn’t being used.
No point just changing the cable as it will go again, you need to find the cause.
If none of the above makes any sense then it’s probably “engineer time”.
Remember though, before doing anything, UNPLUG THE APPLIANCE FIRST.

    Cheers for the advice guys.

I’ll have a look round it at the weekend and maybe get the engineer back out.

With your advice we might be able to figure something out.

    Thanks again
