Hi All,
our trusty Bosch dishwasher is finaly on its knees. It is struggling on and still doing a good job.
The problems are that it needs a new lower door seal.. water leaks out if you open it when its running… pours out really and also it has developed an unbearable noise… very very loud.
It seems to be the main motor, as when emptying it goes back to normal. It’s only when doing the wash parts of the cycle that the noise is there.
Does main/run motor sound about right?
If so, it’s about £150ish for the seal and motor… from what i can see.
So i’m wondering if it’s worth it now after the best part of 10 years?
I’ve seen a fairly cheap Beko DWD4311W as possible replacement… Any advice on best thing to do?Re: Bosch SGS43A42GB/01 – Very Noisy – Time to Change?

If the motor shaft isn’t rusted badly then a new Impellor Seal Kit (174730) can be fitted for less than £50 if you’re up for it?
The door seal leaking could be that the machine is overfilling and time to remove, clean and refit the magnetic float that’s located just under the filter cover (grey plastic cover in 6 o’clock position)……simples!!

Don’t buy Beko!………. instead I give you no less than 3 (three) possible alternatives….BOSCH, BOSCH and BOSCH…OK? 😀

Ahhh cheers for that… i’ll avoid Beko lol.
I did fancy another Bosch as i know they’re good, especialy as this one lasted so long. Not cheap though lol.
I’m not afraid to take things apart so i’ll open it up and have a look!
The seal has never been changed and seems to be deformed now… plus i found a chunk in the drainage impellor!
It doesn’t usualy leak when running, just if you open it when full.Is it easy to get the motor out? Is the impellor attached to it?

I’ve got the motor off, nice and easy like you said… just have to remember where all the spade conectors go lol.
It’s pretty gunged up inside, between the metal motor case and the plastics of the impeller.
Looks like a slow leak, rather than more sudden problem.
The motor shaft seems to turn ok, smooth and quiet, so i’m not sure what would have been making the noise now. Unless it’s the seal arround the shaft.
Tempted to plug the motor back in and run it whilst the things in pieces.
Any thoughts as to what else it could be? Or does this all sound about right for needing the seal kit?

Having got this far then fitting a new Impellor kit is your next move. You might also replace the ball race bearing directly behind the water seal as chances are that that it the noisy culprit. It’s a standard 608ZZ ballrace bearing and well worth fitting.
Please don’t plug it in until you reassemble it with the new parts I’ve advised you fit, there’s a good chap. 😯

I fix photocopiers and big printing machines for a job, sometimes i have to remind myself that i don’t always know everything about fixing everything! 😀
I’ll get those bits ordered up, can’t find a shop to go pick them up.
Found one kit thats £38 but it doesn’t show the big ring seal that is shown in other arround the £47-49 mark.
That other bearing you sugested, is that the one at the base of the motor shaft? Does it just pry off?Cheers for this!

Clearly you’re a fixer by trade so a little motor like this will present no problem. Once you dismantle the motor and armed with the correct impellor kit and new bearing, it’ll be all too obvious your next move….and yes the bearing just sits on the shaft so get out your bearing pulley, WD40 and 3 in 1 oil can……….easy peasey. 😉

Also.. Showing me up now… Not got a bearing pulley! Not even sure what one is lol. I presume it’s some kind of extraction tool?
I’ll let you know how i get on, it’ll be a few days for parts… Unless you know a bood shopin the Manchester area?

Managed to take it apart, clean it up and put it back together correctly. So thats a start.
I think you were spot on Martin, about the noisey bearing. Might try and get one tomorrow, so i can use the washer over the weekend!

Been working away and so only just got the parts today.
I’ve fitted the new impellor and seal kit but couldn’t find/get to the bearing.
The motor is held together with 2 screws but one won’t come out and now the torx head is starting to round out…
So i’m guessing the bearings inside there some where?Any ideas?

Indeed the bearing is in the front metal housing, access via removal of the complete pump chamber. Then remove to 2 long Torx screws holding the motor ends and stator together. If the torx head is starting to “round out” it is usually a result of a bad fit between that head and the torx (T20) bit. Probably the bit needs replacing?
Failing that the only option is to saw the head of the screw and replace the screw on reassembly. (A good DIY/Ironmongers merchant should have a suitable replacement)Take great care not to damage the threaded rotor shaft when extracting it from the end frame. Damage that, even slightly, and it’s scrap metal at that point……. 😯

Cheers, to be honest i was thinking similar to the screw head idea. Is it a nut in the hole on the other end, as i think thats where to problem is?
As for the torx bit, no it’s a new set.. well, bairly used anyway. It looks rusted in at the thread end. I think it’s rounded out as i’m straining away, holding the motor in one hand and driver in the other lol. Wobble.. Slip.. etc…I’ll get there in the end lol
