Firstly the machine (hotpoint – VTD60 vented T/D) had worn through its tearshaped back bearing, the drum had dropped (aided by the belt tension) and was reasting/scraping on top of the motor.
I replaced full bearing kit, and front felt seal. Now sometimes the machine will vibrate really badly, the drum will become very stiff to turn.
I have tried, untightening/tightening all screws, i have placed an extra washer between rear bearing and drum to push it further towards the front, but still it veibrates and resonates.
The front part of the drum (where it pushes over the front felt seal and rest upon the bearing pads) is somewhat egg-shaped, i can see this when the machine is running.
I’m sure this is where the fault is occuring, the bearing pads are griping that front egde of the drum, acting as a break, causing the stuttering vibration.
new drum = no more noisey vibrations?
