ParticipantThis ones probably for R600a! One of my customers just called with this problem. Can hear what he thinks is compressor running. Both fridge and freezer have gone warm although temp gauges still registering correct temp readings. Samsung coming this week. They said possible compressor, dont know how without seeing it. This has only happened since they had a power cut. Does anything need resetting? I dont repair fridge freezers, would like to learn more, but said I would ask in case it is just a reset problem. Thank you. 🙂

Hi
Not a common problem unless the compressor has turned acid oil which the RSH1 is prone to.if the compressor is running then there should be cooling.refrigerant leaks don’t just happen after several years normally especially R600a units.see what the engineer finds.

Hello,
Was it a power cut?
Or has a short developed between the heater and the fridge evaporator?. This could have blown a hole in it.
Quite common on the RSH1 is that the fridge evaporator develops a slight leak. The system can just about hold (without the customer noticing the temp rise) the cabinet temperatures on low gas.
But if there is a power cut and the system was low on gas, the unit will not recover.
It is possible as r600 suggested. That if the evap has leaked, the compressor oil may be acidic. That means the compressor will be shot too.
Only way is to replace both the compressor and the leaking evap. Something I understand Samsung do not get involved with. I am told they don’t even change the evaporator, even if the oil is not acidic. I do and I dont use lockring.

Thank you both for your reply. I will contact my customer. The power cut was in our area, and appreciate what you are saying if there was a problem with the unit before it went off. Will ask him to let me know what samsung say. Thanks again. 😀

Samsung been today. They say it is the compressor, although he cannot fit. I think they must have seperate system engineers. £300.00 to fit. Only three months guarantee on compressors!
He told the customer to mention trading standards, they are obviously having a few issues.
He did also mention, which i’m sure you guys are aware, that he is going to a lot of these appliances that have been installed by currys, where the earth wires that I presume pass through a loom through the door, are not being connected in the right place. This causes the icemaker to fail. Just thought it was worth a mention.

Hi
The compressor is designed and built by samsung for this model and they have stated that the lifespan is 8yrs..this s an inherent defect and the compressor has a known defect. advise the customer to pursue through the small claims court as samsung are ripping off the customer.

Thanks Bryan. I will. It was an expensive appliance and only a couple of years old.
