KeymasterI thought i’d better start a new one instead of hijacking the other thread.
In my defence I have to say that Virgin Media’s in house spam filters are really very good.
If you can get the broadband to work !!
As explained the superhub connection issues are something the business is fully aware of and we are looking at an action to resolve these at the earliest opportunity.
Direct from virgin business,They can’t get the super hubs to work correctly at 30meg + we’ve lost internet 5 times this month so far for 24hrs plus.

Switch it to modem only mode and install a separate wireless router.
My 20 meg service is being upgraded to 60 meg at no extra charge soon and they will no doubt insist on me having a superhub.

I will see how it goes and like as not use it as modem only and use my current wireless router.
Generally my 20 meg connection has been rock solid for some years now. 8)

Yep that’s how its been set up already but on the business services they use a L2TP tunnel which is where the are having the problems.

were on 50mb just know , with hub they supplied soon to be 100mb ,
but i must say the wifi from hub is rubbish , 1-2 mb if your lucky , now got 30ft cable ..
we havent had any issues with virgin over the past 4 years , i suppose it depends where you are ..
were moving to a street that has no fibre optics , so back down to 1-7 mb … dammm

Your on residential then ally.
Business’s won’t be getting the 100mb upgrade.

yeh residential bryan , im not to fussed how much mb etc – but the kids love it – no more lagging on xbox live .. they in for a big shock when we move .. he he
we have bt in office which we only get 7 mb , not so great but its ok for us just now .

Had consistent 18 to 19.5 meg download speeds on tests here for the past couple of years.
One problem with Ntl/Virgin Media is that they are/were a conglomeration of several different cable companies, cobbled together over the years into Ntl.
In this area the original infrastructure was mainly installed by Cable & Wireless and is reputed to be quite good, some other areas such as the one near my brothers in Woking are rather poor. Not sure how much upgrading Virgin Media have done or can actually afford TBH.

Has anyone used open reach? Supposedly there r unlimited wifi hotspots even at your own customer’s house. Useful for iPad when you need to check for parts and of course checking out ukw. I’m currently on virgin media, no issues other than my router is 6 years old and it’s dying. I’m on 3 mobile when I’m out and about but I regularly visit an area where reception is bad and now left mooting the idea of open reach for infrequent use.

bt wifi hot spots only if customer has a bt hub and has set it up as a hot spot ..or you happen to be in a public bt wifi spot – but on the whole quite good …

i find the BT wifi hotspots are very handy even in rural areas i can normaly find a hotspot, its BT prices that i disagree with, but you cant have it all ways.

My internet was slow when the super hub was fitted.
I complained as it was slow and it would lock out so it had to be reset.
Virgin fitted a new larger thicker cable now I get 50mb no problem and even when 4 of us use it at the same time it works great no slowing down even if downloading films.

Have complained to virgin for months that my service was slow, at their end they said I was getting a great signal, they reluctantly agreed to send an engineer that found the cable outside was no good. Still not great though to be honest, anyone know when this “amazing” upgrade is happening

This is the latest generation super hub, I’m even getting over 50mb on my phone and well over 150mb on my main PC.
The sent me the hub by courier and I installed it myself. 8)
We have always been fairly lucky in this area as the initial infrastructure was installed by Cable & Wireless, reputed to be one of the better networks of the old Ntl setup.

Out here in the woods we can only dream of such affordable luxuries. Just 40 miles as the crow flies to The BT tower in London yet having to put up with Broadband ‘speeds’ approaching the time it would take to walk there. 🙁
