Hotpoint aqgd169s wont start

Hi there.
I’ve been to the above today and once the program is set and door closed the machine wont start. The light in the drum goes out and if you press start button it will pause and star but the door solonoid does not click or lock. If I pull the release link it will lock and unlock and the door light will work but still no go.
I have checked the door lock and all seems fine and can’t see any wiring problems.
Any ideas please.
