ParticipantHi,
We had a wash on yesterday and during the the part of spin the machine was extremly noisy, after wash was taken out I turned the drum by hand and there is a grinding/rubbing noise present. Can anyone advise what the problem could be? There is no excessive play on the drum just this grinding noise.
Also when turning by hand i can hear a knocking noise like something may of come loose?
Help appreciated ❓

Many of the lads in the trade can do the job in around 90 mins. They have it down to a fine art mind you. DIY’rs with limited tools and know how will struggle over the many hurdles they are faced with and can take best part of all weekend to do it.
There’s many a YouTube video showing how easy the job appears to be and the temptation is laid bare. Their only motive mind you is simply to flog you the necessary parts required to do the job.
Best tip: If you can fully assemble an IKEA flatpack dresser unit first time with no bits left over than changing bearings on a WT960 is a walk in the park! 😈

That is not the correct way to proceed.
I strongly advise you to try and get the old bearings out first. You may find them so badly corroded that they collapse leaving the outer shell siezed in the drum, you would find this nigh on impossible to remove. In that case you would need a complete drum rear assembly. You could also find that the drum support shaft has been badly damaged and need replacing as well.

Thanks for reply but I would still like a link of parts as I need to weigh up the costing, regards

The drum support is £43 list inc vat, the drum rear £100. From that you will see that it is pointless ordering the bearings until you have tried to get the old ones out. The new drum rear half includes the bearings.
PS. That is a very good price for the bearings as their list price is almost £35. 😉
