ParticipantI’m currently looking to buy a second hand washing m/c to replace a machine that is on it’s last legs. This is intended only as a temporary solution as we’re intending to have our kitchen replaced soon and will probably get a new m/c (then not sure when, we’ve been talking about it for several years already!). I’m married and have one child, with one on the way, so thought a slightly larger capacity m/c would be more appropriate. At the moment we probably do four loads a week over two days. Obviously when the second child arrives, this will go up. We’ve no special needs and it’ll be on a concrete floor. Oh, and we line dry. I’ve had a poke around the site, inc, the buying advice and decided to go for one of the German brands, Korean and possibly Zanussi. With this in mind I’ve spotted a Bosch Exxcel WFX 3267 here, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251003831352?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 on eBay and wondered if anyone had any thoughts whether this is a good buy. I don’t have any more info. on the m/c other than what’s advertised, but I’ve messaged the seller for more info.
Regards

Yes thats well worth a punt . Zanussi has taken a nose dive in terms of quality and as for the korean brands if you mean LG or Samsung then i stopped servicing them because of having to wait ages for the parts resulting in aggro of the customer.

Thanks for the reply. I got somw of my questions answered. It’s apparently 5yrs old, but unfortunately he didn’t answer my question about how much usage it’s had. I read somewhere on here that Bosch are good for 4-7yrs, so without any warranty I’m not sure, what do you think?

It’s like cars.
I can buy a two year old one that’s done 200,000 miles.
I can buy a five year old car that’s only only done 50,000 miles.
Which is the better buy?
The problem with appliances is that they don’t have an odometer on them to give you any clue of how much it’s done or how it’s been used so when it comes to second hand it is very much caveat emptor. This is especially so to the untrained eye.

Thanks for the replies. I requested the usage again, but no reply, so didn’t bid. Shame really as this was relatively close to where I live. Just have to keep looking – sigh.

The car analogy only works so far, an older car with a very low mileage is almost certainly a worse buy than a more recent one that has done 12,000 to 15,000 miles per year. 😉
Low mileage on modern cars is not good for the engine at all, low use on a washing machine is not as much of a problem.
