ParticipantFitted new selector switch 2 months ago and was apparently going fine last Friday. Was switched on again Saturday to find no lights, no one at home.
Have checked mains feed, RIF, lock, selector microswitch, pump, valves, heater, motor connector firmly in place + visible check of board. No fault found.
Have not checked brushes, motor toc, fluff filter or button cluster. Machine is 4 years old and very lightly used. Buttons on front click as expected of tactile switches and I have reinforced the panel fixing on a previous repair.
So my question is… do these coreboards suddenly fail for no apparent reason?
I know, daft question.
Incidentally, lock is not getting a neutral.

Having a closer look at board now. Have desoldered 0.047uF “X2” poly cap. It is reading 0.026uF. Wonder if that would do it?
Checked all 12v relays which read OK.

Spookily enough I had an identical fault (4 weeks back) with a Candy (CDB115) that is exact equivalent of the HJA8703. It was just the neutral wire to the mains filter that got knocked off when the spin went OOB…!!! 😯

Good. That confirms I’m on the right track.
But I checked BOTH continuity through the RIF (unplugged) and that 240 volts was there between live and neutral at exit terminals of RIF (machine connected) because I know the RIFs are a weakness on Hoover.
Maybe I might go back and trace neutral from RIF to find where it goes first but I guess it would go straight to coreboard?

Hi jr, I sent the pm but it’s still in my outbox. I’d be very interested in any info you have.
I had quoted for new board £75 retail from Hoover. (£62.20 trade incl. vat delivered, no proof of trade status requested. Puts Connect price to shame.) Customer has just rung and says he’s going for new machine as this particular machine has had several problems since new. It’s his holiday cottage (very expensive rates, no doubt) so has to be sorted by Saturday.
He told me he’d gone with Which’s recommendation of an Indesit IWDE126 and asked me what I thought. I did my best to be diplomatic. Looks like I will have plenty of work for the foreseeable future anyway, starting in a year’s time :rolls: .
Apparently Which rated it better than the equivalent Bosch at £200 more. Makes you wonder.
