I mean all it is is a solidified block of Vim, isn’t it?. I think I might try making my own. The last one I bought a couple of years ago is getting a bit short. I have used Scotchbrites and they’re OK but not quite as convenient shape-wise.
Any advice on where to get one for £2 or how to set up my own little factory appreciated 😆 .

I agree, they’re not cheap but a pair for around 10 or 15 quid will last most folks a lifetime. I bought a pair way back when Kwatt’s dad was in short trousers and still have (almost) a full stick left…!!!

Com sticks are a priceless necessity for any right-minded engineer to have in his toolkit. They last for ages and in that time can earn you thousands in successful motor/carbon brush repairs.

Go one, shell out a few quid….why not? :clown:

Indeed, if Martin would only take his own advice and shell out on a new one, that would create a surge in demand causing a temporary panic at Qualtex. They’d get 50 in, causing a temporary supply overload, and I could get one for two quid.

If yours has lasted that long Martin, it has to be a soft one :clown: .
You’d better make it last a bit longer as Qualtex don’t do them ones any more.

I always use the dark orangey brown ones, although the chalky ones do fill the comm gaps nicely they break up for fun. Mine last years as well.

That is rather sad, I don’t know how you’ve managed all these years.

By the way, what do you use to clean commutators?
