We have a problem with the dishwasher. 2 days ago we loaded the dishwasher as usual, pressed start, and left it to wash the dishes.Came back to it a couple of hours later to find the washer had not filled with water and the timer was still showing 138 minutes. Yesterday I cleaned the filters, ran water through the spray arms under the tap, and unscrewed the cover above the pump impeller and checked it was not jammed, which it wasn`t.I also checked that the water inlet filter was clean. I did a short pre-rinse cycle and it worked perfectly, although some fatty deposits appeared in the previously cleaned filters. Bought a bottle of dishwasher cleaner today and set it to run a full wash cycle. Again it would not fill so I tried the other wash/rinse programs with the same result. There are no error codes displayed.

When you put it on a program does the drain pump run?

Whenever I switch it on there is a constant humming, I presume that is the drain pump running.

Does anyone else know what might be wrong with our dishwasher? I`ve not had a reply from clivejameson yet.

The drain pump running constantly (even with it switched on and the door open) indicates that the base (where the motor sits) is flooded. Disconnecting the power completely then tipping it backwards (not frontwards or sideways by the way) will no doubt result in the flooded water draining off. (Have a towel handy to mop up)…..

    Try that….report back 😉

When I said the drain pump runs constantly, I meant when the door is closed and a program is set.
When I open the door the drain pump stops.

It looks to me like the water inlet valve might be faulty, does anyone agree?

But have you tried what I suggested previously?

    Hi Martin.
I tipped the dishwasher backwards this morning, and there was a fair amount of water in the base which I had to soak up with a bath towel.
I`ve not reconnected it yet, I thought I should wait for your advice.

Switch the machine back on now and you will find it now works. However, there is an internal leak somewhere that needs fixing. So from that point on you will need to look ever closer inside the machines workings to source (and cure) the problem before it stops working again…. 🙁

    Re: Bosch Exxcel SGS43A12GB/27 problem

I took both side panels off today and did two auto 55-65 degree wash cycles, each took 82 minutes. I was near enough lying on the floor shining a torch into the base looking for water leaks for most of the time. I couldn`t see any water dripping anywhere.
There was a small amount of water remaining in the recesses of the base when I started, and after the two wash cycles the water had risen by about 2 millimetre. But I couldn`t see where it was coming from. The float that shuts the water off when the machine floods was still in it`s lowest position and hadn`t moved at all.
I noticed the water had risen in the base recess below the pump on the right hand side, so I wonder if water is leaking from the bottom of the pump.Wherever the leak is, it`s a very slow one.I`m not sure what to do next, calling an engineer in may prove expensive if he has to spend time looking for the leak, then replacing the faulty part.

It could well be that the main circulating pump is leaking through the drive shaft? Removing the front plastic kick panel and the metal panel behind that will allow a clearer view of the motor.

    Re: Bosch Exxcel SGS43A12GB/27 problem

Hi Martin, thanks for your latest advice. I`m beginning to wonder though whether it`s cost effective to have it repaired. I don`t know how much it would cost to have a new circulation pump fitted, if that turns out to be the cause of the problem. The machine is almost 10 years old though, bought in June 2002, and has been used almost daily since then. How long will it be till something else goes wrong?
I`ve noticed that since I pressed the two reset buttons, when it first stopped working, the 55-65 degree wash program that always took 138 minutes now takes 82 minutes. I don`t know whether that`s another fault or not.

Probably not, the timing variation could be due to recent interruptions. Leaky circulating pumps can be fixed rather than replaced but nevertheless it isn’t a cheap fix by any means. 🙁
