ParticipantHello,
I have an old but reliable (circa 1989) Zanussi Jetsystem ZFL1023 washing machine. It has provided many years of faultless service. However, over the last few weeks I’ve noticed an occasional electrical buzzing or crackling sound coming from the timer. This has only occurred during the wash phases and only occurs for a couple of seconds at a time.
Until now, despite these occasional noises the cycle has completed normally without problems. However, this morning I set the machine to a 95c wash using the variable thermostat controller. It proceeded to fill up and after a couple of minutes the timer moved on to the point where the water heats up. After about 5 minutes the now familiar crackling noise came from the timer. Unfortunately after this happened the timer moved onto the next step having only heated the water to about 30c. I know that normally the timer will remain in the same place until the machine reaches the selected temperature.
Does this mean that the magnetic thermostop coil on the timer is failing? Or could it be something else?
I’m a bit of a vintage machine collector but I enjoy repairing them too. I am happy to do whatever it takes to repair as it is my hobby (call me mad if you like). If it came to a timer change, it doesn’t look like the easiest of tasks as the Crouzet timer has many individual connectors attached to it. This is why I wanted to ask whether anything else could be faulty before I proceed.
Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Precisely that is your problem, sadly I believe the Timer and parts for it now obsolete. 😥

Thanks for the replies.
I do have a replacement timer available from Germany. My German is quite rusty but it is the same timer with a C315/6 mark.
What is the recommended process for changing one of these over? I’ve taken the timer knob off and can see two screws behind the soap dispenser cam.
Could the coil on Crouzet timers be changed over independently?

Align the timer cam so the screws are visible and remove screws. Release the mounting metal plate screws at the top of the plate then slide the plate gently to release the retaining hooks at the bottom of the plate. Carefully unhook the dispenser operating rod (ball & socket fixing) from the timer end. Then slide the timer off its mounting plate complete with plastic cam (keyhole slotted onto plate).

No idea, never in all the years I’ve been fixing Zanussi have I messed with the coil (replaced whole timer instead – but that was years back now anyway)….sorry!

Thanks very much for the advice, Martin. You’ve been very helpful.
Luckily I have another (26 year old) Zanussi doing the work while this one is out of action.

Just a quick note to say that I’ve changed the timer. It took me quite a long time, but I wanted to be careful to swap the wires over correctly. One mistake could have been fatal.
The machine is now heating up properly and running as it should. An unusual feature of these machines is the intermittent 450rpm spins during the main cotton wash. I understand this was dropped for the next series of Jetsystem machines.
Anyway, thanks again for your help.
