My 10 year old AEG Favorit 50700 dishwasher started smelling of burning the other day. I turned it off and pulled the side cover off it and located the source of the smell.

The power connector to the inline water heater element that feeds the top basket outlet was melting. This was due to corrosion of the connector, specifically where one of the cables met the IDC type female spade.

My concern was that because of the way the heater element had been rotated within the pipe, the connector was pressing against the bitumen like coating on the outside of the tub which had then melted around the connector. I assume this coating is flammable and could potentially have ignited?

I replaced the original connector with insulated crimped spades and ensured this time that the connectors were not resting against the tub.

Of concern is that the positioning (rotation) of this element during manufacture could have resulted in a potential fire I expect.

I contacted AEG and they aren’t interested. Is my concern valid and if so is there some one I should report it to?
