ParticipantLooking for a replacement for our 9 year old Whirlpool American SBS F/F which has frankly been more trouble than it’s worth (multiple board replacements front and back, tripping RCD etc.) and I’m really struggling to find a brand and model that have any kind of decent reputation at around the £1500 mark. SWMBO likes the three door style (under freezer drawer) and we’d kind of narrowed it down to the F&P RF540ADUX2, Baumatic Titan 5, Maytag SOV028TB (until we learnt that they’re owned by Whirlpool now? no thanks…) or CDA PC85 which looks very reasonably priced but I have concerns over customer service/reliability.
To cut a long question short – the F&P seems to be at the top of our list, so does anyone have any experience/thoughts on their build quality, reliability and customer service?
Thanks,
Lou

From your list, the F&P is the best bet IMO.
The Baumatic will be a badged up Daewoo or similar.
The CDA wil be a badged up Samsung or whatever.
The Maytag will almost certainly be a badged up Whirlpool.
There are actually very few manufacturers that actually make their own side by side American fridge freezers, the majority of the brands you see are liable to be rebadged versions of someone else’s fridge freezers.

Thanks K.
From looking at pictures, the Baumatic and the CDA both look like the same machine (and also the same as the Rangemaster RDXD910SS with slightly different controls). The only thing that is putting us off slightly is the shelves in the F&P all being full width which is less flexible than split shelves and also means that you have to open both doors to access the salad drawers as they both slide out together on a full width under tray. I think I’d rather live with that than an unreliable unit though.
Are there other alternatives that we should be considering around this price point?
Thanks,
Lou

Now, not that I am aware of that aren’t either not very good really, rebranded versions of things that are available for less (often a lot less) or that have service restrictions that would put me off.

Thanks mate – your advice is much appreciated. Never thought it would be so hard to pick a fridge!
