ParticipantI have a Hotpoint WDD960 with a Hotpoint engineer coming out on Tuesday for a fixed price repair as the bearings are gone, costing about £100. Machine is just over 3 years old.
I spoke to a local independent engineer who told me that the drum spider is likely to have also gone and perhaps the rear half of the tub would need replacing. So parts cost getting on for £200. After it was used today I also noticed a small amount of water coming from under the front, so perhaps it’s shaking itself apart
We only bought this machine because we were desperate and with a 1 year old (at the time) really needed the machine straightaway.
When I booked the Hotpoint engineer on the phone they told me if it wasn’t economical to repair then they would offer me a discounted replacement. Does anyone know how much they typically offer, and at what point they would normally decide it was uneconomical to repair?
The reason I’m asking is if they will give me a really good discount then I may well go for it, even if it only lasts another 3 years. Otherwise I’ll just fork out for a Bosch.
For fun I had my sound meter out whilst it was spinning and it was showing 112dB

there’s a good chance given its age it’s a sealed or welded tub as they’re known in which case its a single unit replacement full tub outer and inner front back the lot comes in one piece and simply replaced. As its hotpoint your getting the engineers carry a whack of parts and its highly unlikely they’ll BER it as repairing it is almost always cheaper. I went to one while working for hotpoint the tub had jumped its mount smashed the door and caved in the side of the cabinet, they still told me to order all the bits and rebuild it…..

Ah well if that’s the case then I’ll just have to go with it.
Don’t really want to have to fork out for a new machine at the moment, especially if £100 buys it a few more years.
