It’s one of the newer indesit washer dryer but not completely different than its replacement. Apparently the owner says the door interlock failed two months ago and had it replaced by an engineer from the yellow pages.

Now I was called to the job, saying it doesn’t work. The insulation reading came up 31mohms, very low for my liking so I investigated further and found the motor was the culprit. Thought it was odd as it was 2 years old, it’s a welling motor and the brushes are intact with plenty of wear and good contacts. Gave it a good blast with “dust off” spray and still not made a difference to the insulation reading therefore a new motor is called for. Bought a new motor a sole motor, insulation readings went very high to my liking.

Then discovered the door interlock mulitplug appeared to have blew out and got burnt marking on the plug. The interlock itself works but could not explain the reason for the plug to be out of it place. So I thought maybe “the last person syndrome” didn’t do the job well.

To round it off, with the plug back in the interlock, all are working just fine. I decided to replace the interlock as a precaution. But the question is, was the fault in the motor blew out the interlock or vice versa? There was no report of tripping the electrics. I just couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it and why did this happened. Did the last guy carried out electrical checks? Judging from the owner, he was in and out 15 mins as he knew what was the fault. One can’t help feeling that if he did carry out the electrical check then the blowout would have been prevented? And can door interlock fails after two years of daily wash? Usually they last a bit longer. Just that I don’t do many interlock changes, in fact I count 8 over the last three years, mostly on Hoovers.

The two faults totally unconnected IMHO. Stock up on interlocks from now on as they fail more now than ever before. Little can said about their motors, just as crappy will do, it’s an Indesit after all said and done!

my thoughts too! Just baffling that’s all.

Although it is Indesit but it is the same interlock and motor on Hotpoint so makes them both as rubbish as each other then?

Have already stocked up on Indesit door interlocks, just got a bigger van so I can hold more spares.

Its not the interlocks its the shitty connector blocks seen loads overheating.

If the connector block is the problem then what can it be done to stop it happening? I can’t find replacement plug other than complete new loom.

The wiring does looks a bit too thin, I prefer it thicker. But this is what they can get away with it.

Cut off plug and fit spades instead?
