    Just thought you’d like to know that since adding all this Twittering and Facebook stuff onto UKW, using Windows XP slows the access time down by quite a margin AND with the proverbial “Done but with errors on the page” notifications and exclamation mark icon.

    Using my other all singing, all dancing PC on Windows 7 (Home edition) AND my rotten Apple Macbook & iPad….no problem!

    You don’t need to comment, just pass on that info on to Sundeep if you will? 8)

    I’m in agreement with you for once Martin, it does stutter when loading recently, the ‘Done but with error on page’ I get relates to some Google bumf and the Facebook links. 🙁

    It’s Facebook usually.

    Their servers dish up the little icons as it’s under their control and, if the element doesn’t load or load properly then you will get an error like that. Sadly, there’s not a lot we can do about it.

    Still want the raspberry?

    Must admit, it has become a real PITA using IE, you think the page has loaded so go to click on a link or scroll and the page jumps a bit more as the final bits and bobs load up and you end up clicking in the wrong place.

    Using Google Chrome however works fine. 🙂

    We don’t use IE at all anymore as, to be blunt, it’s been pants. No clue what IE9 is like to use but on a quick test the other night I wasn’t impressed.

    We test everything in Safari, Chrome and Firefox. That’s it.

    Chrome is a good alternative for Windows users IMO and way, way better than IE.

    I’m sure you’ll agree though Ken, that the vast majority of Windows users are using Internet Explorer as their default browser. So if there were a way those errors could be sussed and overcome then so much the better. 🙂

    Go tell it to Microsoft.

    TBH, you cannot develop to play merely to one browser and IE now constitutes less than half of internet use and, to get all the funky stuff you can’t use IE.

    We’ve even had issues with simple CSS stuff not displaying correctly in IE. When it can’t even display a simple style sheet all hope is lost.

    It’s a big pile of pants basically IMO.

    And, I actually have pity for the people that feel they have to use it all the time as they are losing out on many things.

    So no, we will not be playing to one minority browser or OS. We’ll try to accommodate as far as we can but I cannot justify wasting time pandering to IE alone when MS cannot see fit to adhere to the same standards as everyone else.

    The only reason I use it is when I am forced to use it by some spares sites that use Active X components (high security risks) etc and for a bit of testing to make sure that stuff works as well as possible.

    Have you got their phone number?

    But seriously, I couldn’t give a monkeys TBH. Both Jim and I will learn to live with it if no alternative is forthcoming. At least now you are aware of the problem and that’s my mission complete. Have a great weekend!:D

    Knock yourself out 😉

    I know what you’re saying and I appreciate the sentiment behind it.

    But (you knew it was in the offing), the problem is pandering to minorities/factions and the ability to dedicate the time and resources to do so.

    In the end, we do the best with the resources we have. If someone wants to give me access to all the toys in the box I could do some wonderful things. Hell, I’d love to tell you it was no problem and we’d get right on it and find a solution but the reality of where we are is somewhat different to that ideal.

    So, we do what we can…

    On that note, I’ve noticed (from smirfing the interweb) that some of the larger UK based companies websites have a section entitled “Accessibility” at the bottom of their pages. Clicking on that shows the reader what their site is suitable for full access viewing. A typical listing example:-

    * Internet Explorer 6.0+
    * Netscape 6.2+
    * Safari 3+
    * Firefox 2+

    Yeah, basically you drop back the functionality to support the older browsers or the site doesn’t work.

    The Facebook link has been a real PITA in the last few days, using either IE or Chrome it is sometimes taking quite a while to load. 😥
